Car hire at Valencia Airport (VLC)
Book your car online in advance for greater vehicle availability and, in many cases, lower rates than those offered at the desk. You can also collect your vehicle as soon as you arrive at the airport and start your trip without unnecessary queues or waiting.
Valencia Airport has a wide range of car hire companies. Their offices are on the ground floor (P0) of the terminal building, next to the exit from baggage reclaim halls 3 and 4.
Book your car in advance through the main hire companies, check availability and compare current offers. You can collect the vehicle as soon as you arrive at Valencia Airport and, depending on the company's terms, return it later at the airport itself, in the city or at any of its other offices, including those around the Port of Valencia.
Parking for collecting and returning hire cars
Once you have completed the hire formalities, go to the car park reserved for vehicle hire companies, next to the airport's P1 car park.
If you are returning a hire car, park it in this same area, reserved exclusively for the vehicles of hire companies. To reach it by car, follow the signs and drive around the P1 car park to the designated return area.
Conditions for hiring a car
The requirements for hiring a car in Spain may vary depending on the company and vehicle type, although most require similar minimum conditions.
You need a valid, current driving licence in the category required for the vehicle you want to hire. In addition, many companies require the driver to have held the licence for at least one year before the hire date.
Spanish drivers must present a valid Spanish driving licence. Foreign nationals may use the licence issued in their country of origin when it is valid for driving in Spain. In some cases, an International Driving Permit may also be required, especially if the original licence is not written in Latin characters.
All companies will ask for a valid identity document or passport and a valid payment method, normally a credit card in the main driver's name.
Many companies apply a surcharge to drivers under 25, although the minimum age, amount and terms vary by company. Likewise, certain higher-category vehicles may be available only to older drivers or drivers who have held their licence for longer.
Insurance and cover
Most hires include basic insurance, which usually covers third-party liability, vehicle theft protection and damage cover subject to an excess. However, the cover included may vary by company and booked rate, so it is advisable to check the terms before confirming the booking.
The excess is the maximum amount the customer must pay if the vehicle suffers damage covered by the insurance. If the cost of repair exceeds that amount, the insurer will pay the remainder, provided that the incident is covered by the policy.
If you wish to reduce or eliminate the excess, most companies offer additional cover that can be purchased when booking or collecting the vehicle. These options involve an additional daily cost, but reduce or remove the driver's financial liability for damage covered by the insurance.
