Las Fallas: beyond words.

Valencia's Las Fallas (Falles), a world-renowned celebration declared an event of international tourist interest, is the city's most important festival. From 14 to 19 March each year, Valencia's days and nights become a continuous celebration, with 385 papier-mâché figures up to 30 metres high on display, surrounded by the well-known “ninots”, before they are burned during La Nit de la Cremà, the closing ceremony. These satirical figures address a wide range of subjects, above all current political and public affairs.
Another inseparable part of Las Fallas is the mascletà: an extraordinary sound spectacle in which thousands upon thousands of rockets and firecrackers are set off daily in the town hall square, from 1 to 19 March at 2 pm, creating an immense display of gunpowder and explosions like an earthquake.
